Georgemas Junction planning update6/8/2015Stoerhouse Highlands Ltd (SH) is extremely disappointed that the Highland Council North Planning Applications Committee, at their meeting of the 4th of August, chose to reject our application to construct a 15MW biomass fuelled Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant at Georgemas Energy and Logistics Park, near Thurso, Caithness. The plant, would have been constructed at a cost of around £65M, and would have delivered around 20 on the ground high quality jobs, secured additional jobs in the local fuel supply chain and potentially created 50 to 100 further high value jobs through the upstream sale of heat to co-located businesses on the wider Georgemas Energy and Logistics Park site. Andrew McMurtrie, Stoerhouse Highlands Chief Executive, said, “This is a very disappointing decision which serves to hold back a significant investment in Caithness, jeopardising the proposed development and the creation of a large number of valuable jobs in the area. Stoerhouse Highlands will give careful consideration to our next steps and assess whether to appeal the decision or to invest in alternative locations, elsewhere in the UK.” |
