FuelThe plant is designed to use virgin timber, the core source being locally produced, sustainably grown forestry derived material, including brash, with the balance being a mix of sawmill residues, agri waste material (e.g. straw), distillers draff and forest materials from further afield if necessary.A key driver to the development of the plant at Georgemas is to maximise the use of the forestry materials available from the north of Scotland. Harvesting the timber from these peripherally located forests is often economically challenging due to the cost of transporting the timber long distances to potential markets. The result is that these forests are often constrained from delivering their full potential. The development of the Georgemas biomass CHP plant will deliver a local, stable, long–term market to support the sustainable development of these north of Scotland forestry resources. |
